West Point Cadets Visit OBC
We are pleased to host a group of West Point Cadets at Old Bergen Church again this year. These students are participating in a multi-cultural spring course called “Winning the Peace” They will visit various groups, government entities and faith communities learning how to relate to others in a multi-cultural context. Their visit to Old Bergen will take place on Friday morning, April 5th, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM.

Join us as we celebrate Palm Sunday on April 14that 11:00 AM. We will observe this festival day with processionals, palm branches, confetti and special music. We are especially excited to have Broadway singer and friend of Old Bergen, Angela Birchett, along with actor/singer Justin Friesen will provide special music. There are three opportunities for you to observe Good Friday with Old Bergen Church. There will be a community ecumenical Prayer Walk beginning at 9:30 AM on the corner of Emory Street and Monticello Avenue. The processional, which recalls the last hours of Christ’s suffering and death, will stop at sites where suffering and violence has occurred in our own city. Easter Sunday begins with a more informal early morning service at 8:30 AM in the sanctuary. The service opens with a processional led by the Christ candle representing the resurrection of Christ. The Sunday School teachers will again host an Easter Breakfast in Brett Fellowship Hall at 9:30 AM. Bergen Square Day
Make plans to attend the first annual Bergen Square Day on Saturday, May 18th, from 1:00 - 6:00 PM. This event will focus on the historical roots of Jersey City as Bergen Village and celebrate the wonderful diversity of the present community. The center of the event will be at Bergen Square, corner of Academy and Bergen Ave. Bergen Avenue will be closed from Newkirk to Vroom for this one day street festival and will include entertainment, food and merchant…

Family Promise – Homeless Ministry
This week Old Bergen Church is being transformed into a temporary homeless shelter for four families experiencing a housing crisis. Our classrooms are set up as living spaces and volunteers provide meals and support each evening and overnight. This is part of our participation in Family Promise - an interfaith coalition of faith communities joining together to meet the needs of families in our area who would otherwise be homeless.
