Pentecost at Old Bergen
On May 23rd we will celebrate Pentecost with an in-person (hybrid) worship service. Many of our members have been vaccinated now and the infection rate of the virus is finally going down in New Jersey, so the Consistory Session has decided to open the church (at least for this one day) for in-person worship. The pastor will be away May 1-6 leading and attending a hybrid training event at Montreat Conference Center in Montreat. NC. It is the “Arts, Recreation and Worship” conference. Outdoor Worship, Church Picnic & Annual Meeting
On June 13th we will hold an in-person outdoor worship service in the south parking lot at 11:00 AM. The service will still be broadcast by live streaming video. Following worship, we will hold an altered version of our annual church picnic. Households are invited to sit at tables together in “family pods”. Those who are vaccinated may also sit together. On June 13th the congregation elected a new class of officers - Deacons, Trustees and Elders. We are grateful that even in the pandemic, Old Bergen Church has been able to maintain its Food Pantry ministry. We do so with fewer volunteers present, and limited clients in the building at a time - following state and county guidelines. In this time of hardship over half of the people who come to our Food Pantry are seeking food assistance for the first time in their lives. Worship this Fall
The Consistory Session has decided to open up the church again for in person worship. We will also broadcast the services on FaceBook live streaming video for those more comfortable participating at home. The pews are marked off for social distancing. Our Pastor, Rev. Jon Brown, will be away from July 22 to August 7 serving as keynote speaker for weeks five and six of the Montreat Youth Conferences in North Carolina. https://montreat.org/events/myc2021 The theme for this summer's youth conferences is "Called to Connect." Our next Food Pantry will be Saturday, August 28 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon. Those needing food assistance are asked to bring a referral form from one of the area social service agencies (such as Let's Celebrate, Women Rising, PACO, Jersey City Resident Response Center, Urban League, Hudson CASA, Horizon Family Success Center).
