ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS AT OLD BERGEN

Be sure to mark your calendars and make plans to join in these wonderful events of the season…

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 4  – SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT – HANGING OF THE GREENS, COMMUNION

On this second week of Advent we will observe the annual “Hanging of the Greens” as we decorate the church sanctuary with evergreens and banners. We will also celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion. Sermon title on December 4th will be “It’s Not Easy Being Green”. Come join us for worship at 11:00 am.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11 – THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT – YOUTH SUNDAY

On this third week of Advent “a little child shall lead them”. The children and young people will share the meaning of the Crismon Tree and take part in the leadership of worship.

Following worship the Deacons will host a Christmas pot luck dinner in support of the Food Pantry. Bring a dish to share and a non-perishable food item for our Food Pantry ministry.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16 – CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY

Children and young people are invited to this special event sponsored by our Sunday School teachers. We will gather at 7:00 pm for crafts, treats, fun and a visit from Santa. Each child will receive a special gift purchased by the Sunday School teachers. Don’t miss this annual event!

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 17 – FOOD PANTRY

Come lend a hand and make a difference in the community. Our monthly Food Pantry will take place from 9:00 AM until noon. Volunteers are welcome to hel[ pack and distribute food to needy families.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 18 – FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT – CHILDREN’S PAGEANT

The children will share a delightful Christmas pageant under the direction of Kayla Badree. We promise angels, shepherds, wise men and sheep! Be sure to stay for Coffee fellowship after worship.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21 – INTERFAITH HOMELESS MEMORIAL SERVICE

Old Bergen Church, in cooperation with Garden State Episcopal Community Development (GSECD), will host the annual Interfaith Homeless Memorial Service. This moving experience welcomes some of the most vulnerable members of our community to share in a beautiful memorial service to name and give dignity to those of our homeless community who have passed away, but were not afforded a decent funeral. We will light candles and name those who have died this past year in our homeless shelters and on the streets. GSECD will also provide a meal and care packages for those attending. The memorial service takes place in the sanctuary at 1:00 PM. We also encourage those who are missing loved ones particularly in this season to attend, light a candle, and remember those who are not with us physically, but whose spirits are in our hearts at Christmas and always.

SATURDAY,  DECEMBER 24 – CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

Come celebrate the birth of Christ in this beautiful service of Lessons and Carols. Surround yourself in the glow of candles, the beauty of Christmas carols, and the words of God’s story of Love incarnate. There will be a live nativity on the front steps of the church at 6:30 pm. The Candlelight service begins at 7:00 PM.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 25 – CHRISTMAS DAY

Christ is born! Come celebrate the miracle of Christ’s birth in a special informal worship setting in the church parlor on Christmas morning. We will serve hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls when you arrive. The Christmas morning celebration will begin at 11:00 AM and be filled with Christmas carols, devotional readings and a short meditation celebrating God’s love among us in the birth of Christ.
