DESCRIPTION:Long lay the world in sin and error pining\, till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. \nA thrill of hope – the weary world rejoices\, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn! \nFor some reason\, this year I particularly resonate with these words from the familiar Christmas carol\, O Holy Night. It seems like the whole world has been waiting in weariness. And yet\, this season there is a new sense of hope. Word of new vaccines that could end this pandemic are on the horizon. While this holiday season will certainly be different from past years\, we still have hope – enough hope to hold out and hold on.  \nSo this year\, I have chosen for our Advent and Christmas theme: “A Weary World Rejoices.” Yes\, we ARE tired\, we ARE weary and at the same time we rejoice that God is with us\, Emmanuel. Perhaps this year that means even more to us in our isolation and hardship. There is still evidence of good news in the midst of the things and people we have lost.  \nThe biblical themes of light in the darkness\, a way in the wilderness\, a new day dawning\, and the hope of new life in the birth of a Savior – all these seem to call out to us in a special way this year.
